How to Determine Your Face Shape

Almost everything you read in a magazine or anywhere else, asks you to determine your face shape in order to determine which hair style looks good on you, which colors, etc. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out my face shape no matter how hard I tried! I wasn’t sure if it was oval or diamond shaped, so I decided to figure out exactly what each face shape entitled. So here is a little glossary on the different type of face shapes. Hope it helps!

Oval Face Shapeoval face shape

Curvilinear shape. Length is equal to one and a half times width, with forehead and jaw the same width. So think of the oval face shape as an egg.

Us girls!

I had a great time last night. We had a house party. It was so much fun. It was also a sort of reunion. There were only the three of us. We are former office mates then they transferred to another company. We are really close. We connect.

We hardly spend time together as a group. But last night was a really memorable one. It strengthened our bond. We talked and laughed together. I love them truly. Next year, there would be an addition to our group since Vyl is going to give birth. We are pretty excited about it. =)

I really feel the love and support of my family. When I'm with them I feel safe and secure. I am always with my family this holiday season. It's a wonderful feeling. I really miss them. Gift Giving...

Me and my new girl friends had an exchange gift today. I love the gifts that they gave me. It's so beautiful. I wear them immediately. he he We will have a Christmas vacation. I will surely miss them. But we will see each other soon after the break. I wish that they will have a Merry Christmas!

I am still looking for a gift for my new friend later. I would still for the one she likes. That would take a lot of effort for me. I hope that I could find it.

Bonding...

I'm excited today. My mom and me will meet after office hours. It's been awhile since we went out together. I always feel comfortable when I'm with my mom. We are going to go shopping later. he he I can't wait.

I could not understand myself whenever I say I will not do something I do the opposite. I just caught myself doing it. I guess it is just meant to be. I don't regret doing it anyway. No regrets. I need to swallow my pride sometimes even if I will be rejected. At least I've tried it.

The kids thoughts me to do just that. To swallow my pride. Just maybe by doing so, I would end up happy. I admire their courage. Even if they were rejected many times, they don't think they are less of a person. I think they are beautiful and brave. I just love them!

I'm pretty excited this Christmas. I'm at peace with myself. I feel good, light, and happy! I forgive those people who have hurt me in one way or the other. I also ask forgiveness to God if I've hurt anyone intentionally or unintentionally.

Interjecting mystery into happy moments—reflecting on what's surprising or hard to understand about them, for example—can strengthen their power. Just be careful not to overanalyze and lose the wonder of the moment. What you want, says University of Virginia social psychologist Timothy D. Wilson, PhD, is to dissect your experiences just enough to appreciate how they've helped form you and then get back to simply living them.

3. Pat yourself on the back Take pride in a hard-won accomplishment—it’s not something that many people do.

If you spent a year sweating at the gym to reach a fitness goal, bask in your new jeans size—and share your success with others. Self-congratulation doesn't come easily to everyone. "A lot of people have trouble basking in an accomplishment because they feel that they shouldn't toot their own horns or rest on their laurels," Bryant says. It's a fine line between joyous self-congratulation and shameless self-promotion, but don't worry: You'll know if you're crossing it.

4. Fine tune your senses Here’s an easy trick to hone your tastebuds or follow your nose.

Close your eyes while you roll a square of dark chocolate over your tongue or fill your lungs with salty sea air or eavesdrop on your grandchildren's play and laughter. Shutting out some sensory stimuli while concentrating on others can heighten your enjoyment of positive experiences—particularly those that are short-lived.

5. Compare downward Comparing upward makes us feel deprived, but comparing downward can heighten enjoyment.

Think about how things could be worse—or how things used to be worse. Keep it light—you don't have to relive a scary health diagnosis or revel in a neighbor's job loss. Simply take note: Is today sunnier than the weather report predicted? Did you finish off that work project more quickly than you thought you would?

6. Get absorbed Some joyful moments seem to call for conscious reflection and dissection.

At other times, we savor best when we simply immerse ourselves in the present moment, without deliberate analysis or judgment. Listen to your favorite music with headphones in a dark room. Lose yourself in a novel you just can’t put down. Set aside enough time on the weekend for your favorite hobby so you can attain a level of absorption known as the "flow" state.

7. Fake it till you make it Putting on a happy face—even if you don't feel like it—actually induces greater happiness, says Bryant.

So be exuberant. Don't just eat the best peach of the season; luxuriate in every lip-smacking mouthful. Laugh out loud at a funny movie. Smile at yourself when you pass by a mirror. After all, he says, "a surefire way to kill joy is to suppress it."

8. Seize meaningful moments Some positive events come and go quickly—a surprise toast to your accomplishments at work, your daughter's sweet 16 party.

It seems obvious that the more quickly a positive experience evaporates, the more difficult it is to savor. Yet paradoxically, Bryant has found, reminding ourselves that time is fleeting and joy transitory prompts us to seize positive moments while they last.

9. Avoid glass-half-empty thinking The world has enough pessimists.

Short circuit negative thoughts that can only dampen enjoyment, such as self recriminations or worries about others' perceptions. When you find yourself awash in happiness, give it space to grow—don't ruminate about why you don't deserve this good thing, what could go wrong, how things could be better. Consciously make the decision to embrace joy.

10. Say thanks more often Cultivate an "attitude of gratitude," Bryant says.

Pinpoint what you're happy about—a party invitation from a new pal, a seat on a crowded subway—and acknowledge its source. It's not always necessary to outwardly express gratitude, Bryant notes, but saying "thank you" to a friend, a stranger, or the universe deepens our happiness by making us more aware of it.

Girl Talk...

It's really nice chatting with one of my best friends. I think we really have a lot in common. We laugh together and comfort each other when one of us is sad. I can always count on her on anything. We are like soul mates. She is my soul mate.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

Nothing is more delicious than a warm, chewy chocolate chip cookie. Using whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose makes this a contender for the best-tasting cookie ever!

Yield: 3 dozen cookies

3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups Gold Medal whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)

Heat oven to 375 F.

Mix sugars, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir in chocolate chips. Feeling a little nutty? Go ahead and add 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts with the chocolate chips.

Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.

New Hair...

I just had my hair relax. It's one of my comforts to go to the parlor and pamper my hair. I've been ironing it for quite some time and I felt that my hair needs to be done. Ironing everyday was not doing it any good. And it's a big hassle for my part.

I'm satisfied with the outcome of my hair. It was beautifully done. My friends appreciate it and it feels good. he he I just want to feel and look good. Our hair is our crowning glory, we have to take care of it. Besides, it's Christmas time. A lot of parties to attend to. It is better that I'm prepared for it. he he

I'm very loyal to my favorite parlor. I've been going there for so many years now and never switch. I like their atmosphere. They are very warm and accommodating. And besides that they offer good service which is very important to me. I love my hair! =)

Roller Coaster Feeling!

Sometimes I feel and think that I'm okay. But sometimes I am not. But I have heard mass yesterday and the priest shared that everything has an end. What I am feeling right now will also have an end. I don't know when but there's an end to this feeling.

I had a good rest today. But I still feel this kind of feeling. Still, life goes on. I just have to have a diversion of this feeling. I clean my room today. That's an achievement. I believe that I have a productive day today.

Missing him...

I miss him! I don't know but I miss him. But I guess we are not meant to be. sigh I believe that if he truly loves me, he would profess it immediately. But we've been together for so long now. But he did not want me.

It's okay. Even if I'm not okay right now but I will be okay. God has greater plans for me. He is my only hope.

I think he is happy right now. He has found a new love. He would not think about me. Why should he? I just hope that I would find the love that is really meant for me very soon.

I think I am waiting for nothing. Do I have to do another follow-up? I don't want to use force for him to response to me. I'm tired of that. Back Together...

I surrender! I just have to accept him as he is. He may be annoying most of the time but I can't push him away anymore. He always comes back. I don't know what his role in my life but I have to accept that he is still here close to me. I don't know how long he will stay but I just have to let him stay by my side. I don't know what the future holds for us but whatever it is, I will stop fighting whatever it is.

At least now, my heart is okay. It is light and I want to stay it as it is. I don't have to worry for tomorrow for God is already there. I'm not expecting anymore so much from him unlike before. And I don't want anymore to push him into doing things that I want. It is better that way. It keeps my heart from being broken.

Unwinding...

Shopping makes me relax. It's a sort of recreation for me. he he I feel good whenever I buy something even if it is just little things.

Last Saturday I went to the mall with a friend. Our plans was to watch a movie since we have a free ticket. But when we saw the movies being shown we didn't like it that much so we agreed to tour around. Well, good for me I was able to buy a new pair of shoes and a watch. he he

I love it! I super love it! I love what I shop!

Time to let go...

I think the time has finally arrived for me to let go of the things that occupied me for the longest time. It is hard for me because I get used to it. My life used to revolved around it. But since it is not healthy for me anymore, I have to set things free. To stop holding on things that doesn't make me happy anymore.

I have to do this for my own benefit or else I will totally loose myself. It is sad and very hard but I can get used to this. God is good. I need not worry much. I just pray that He will guide me always and show me the right thing to do.

I think this is the best decision that I'm making. Just the right thing to do. And I think that it is just right. I don't know what's in store for me tomorrow but for now, I'm glad that I am brave enough to do this. I am saving myself. I should love myself more. I'm happy I made this choice! =)

I am hurting deep inside. I have to make a big decision in my life and I have to stand for it. He has to learn a lesson. The cycle should stop. I am sad but I have to do this for my sake.

Southwestern Ribs with a Rub

These pork ribs are smeared with a peppery rub, slathered with barbecue sauce, then grilled over mesquite chips for a great smoke flavor. Serve with baked beans and your favorite coleslaw on the side. Invite some friends over to share this delectable summertime meal and enjoy a fun and relaxing evening together.

ingredients

  • 4 cups mesquite wood chips
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup light-colored corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin or chili powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 pounds pork loin back ribs
  • 1 recipe Rib Rub (see recipe below)

    1. At least 1 hour before grilling, soak wood chips in enough water to cover.
    2. For sauce, in a 1-1/2-quart saucepan, combine ketchup, corn syrup, white vinegar, brown sugar, onion, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, black pepper, hot pepper sauce, cumin or chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
    3. Cut the ribs into serving-size pieces. Sprinkle Rib Rub evenly over all sides of ribs; rub in with your fingers.
    4. Drain wood chips. In a grill with a cover, arrange medium-hot coals around a drip pan. Test for medium heat above pan. Put some of the drained mesquite chips onto coals. Place ribs, bone sides down, on grill rack over pan. Cover and grill for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours or until ribs are tender, adding more coals and remaining mesquite chips as needed. Brush ribs with some of the sauce during the last 10 minutes of grilling. Pass remaining sauce. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
    5. Rib Rub: In a blender container or small food processor bowl combine 2 teaspoons dried rosemary, 2 teaspoons dried thyme, 2 teaspoons dried minced onion, 2 teaspoons dried minced garlic, 1 teaspoon coarse salt, and 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper. Blend or process until coarsely ground.

Southern-style corn bread stuffing takes on spicy chorizo sausage, fennel, and minced garlic in this not-so-ordinary stuffing. Ruby-red cranberries also make a special appearance, adding some zing and flecks of crimson to this side dish favorite. When selecting fennel, choose bulbs that have a good white and green coloring void of brown or rust spots.

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 16-oz. pkg. corn bread stuffing mix
  • 1 cup dry-roasted salted pistachio nuts
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 14-oz. can reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease twelve 8- to 10-ounce casseroles or a 13x9x2-inch baking pan or dish; set aside. In a large skillet cook sausage 10 to 15 minutes until cooked through, stirring to break up sausage; drain off fat. Transfer sausage to bowl, set aside. Carefully wipe out skillet.
    2. Melt butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add onions, fennel (if using), celery, and garlic. Cook in hot butter 10 to 15 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Add apples (if using); cook and stir 2 minutes. Add vegetable mixture, stuffing mix, nuts, and cranberries to sausage in bowl; toss to combine. Lunch date!

I had a lunch date yesterday with one of my best friends, My! I miss her so much! She has a family of her own and I thought that I could not disturb her anytime I wanted. It's really a different feeling to be connected with your long time friend. There's a different bond between the two of us.

Although before, we have our misunderstandings but we were very young back then. It's a college drama. I've realized that it really strengthens the ties between two people when they are bonding together like eating out and going to malls together. These things will move you closer to each other and get familiar with each other more. You will feel more relax and uninhibited. You tend to open up more also.

Familiarity counts a lot in every relationship. Still, there should be respect and trust in both parties. My and I were planning to make our friendship deeper by going out of town soon when the time is free for the both of us. But simple lunch date is good enough to re-bond!

Not meant...

The last time, I had a hangover over a jacket. But I guess, it was not meant for me.. I don't really like it that much. It doesn't fit me well. I just like the brand. Anyways, I found a new jacket I really like. I also like the color. There was only one left. I did not buy it right away because I don't want to spend anymore. Overnight I was thinking about it. We went back to the store again and I was thinking if it was still there, it was meant for me. To my surprise, it was still there. So I bought it right away. I feel that if I will not buy it I will regret it for the rest of my life. he he I guess it was really meant for me.

Some things happen for a reason. If it is really meant for you then it would be for you. If it is not meant, no matter how much you like or love it or whatever you do to have it, it would not be yours. And you will learn that the ending of it is much better. You will end up much happier.

I am more happier with my new jacket. I love it so much. It's a good thing that I wasn't able to get the first one I found. That was not meant for me...

One Man..

There's only one guy who is close to me at this time. He is very visible in my life even though he is far away. I am happy whenever I hear from him. But the sad point about it is that when he finally meets the girl he truly loves, I will be left alone and no one will catch me. sigh! That's the ugly truth. And another ugly truth is that he is not professing his love to me. sigh!

I don't know who I'll gonna end up with but I hope and pray that I will not be left alone. My uncle and neighbors are already asking me when I'm going to marry. That I don't know. I can't answer that question. That is also a big question to me.

Even though I'm scared, I am still hoping that I could find him soon. I am thinking positive!

Expert Tips for Getting the Short Haircut You Want..


That long, straggly hair is so seventh grade. Now, even models are getting chopped—so break out the scissors and lighten up.

Hairstyles are like hemlines: Everything that goes down must come up. “People get tired of long, long hair,” declares hairstylist Serge Normant of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in New York City, who created the looks on these pages. “The trend is toward shorter hair.” Here’s where we’d normally say that the trend is not just any short haircut, it’s this short haircut. But we’ll refrain this time. “Depending on where you started, short hair can now mean anything from shoulder length to two inches long,” says Normant, who rejects the idea that face shape or body type should factor into the decision. “Anyone can wear short hair—it’s a question of your personality, not the height of your cheekbones.”
If a major crop intimidates you, start at shoulder length and take it in stages. And if you are flirting with going to extremes, there are easy ways to figure out whether you’re really ready to lose a full six inches. Hairstylist Sam McKnight offers this advice: “If you wear your hair up in a ponytail or a bun more often than you wear it down, you’re definitely ready.”

THE CUTOFF

When model Siri Tollerod (pictured) wanted to chop off her hair, she turned to Serge Normant. He snipped it to collarbone level, made it shorter in the back, and layered it all around on the bottom inch. “The cut appears to be one length but doesn’t look heavy,” he says. Colorist Gina Gilbert added blonde highlights to play up the layers. “Now my hair has shape and swing, and it looks thicker,” Tollerod says.

GOING SHOULDER-LENGTH

Shape Up.
Though most hairstylists, including Normant, are generally allergic to rules about facial structure and haircuts, they do believe that if you have an angular face, you should ask your stylist for soft, face-framing layers, and if you have a round face, you should try blunt ends. If you’re in between, get allover layers. “And avoid bangs if you have a tiny forehead—they make it look smaller,” says Normant.

Get Dirty.
To avoid soccer-mom comparisons, try messing up your hair, suggests Chris McMillan of Chris McMillan, The Salon in Beverly Hills. “Don’t wash it every day. It looks best when it has a little roughness to it.”

Lower the Heat
. The big mistake people make with a shoulder-length cut is overstyling—particularly with a round brush and a blow-dryer. “You have to be careful not to let this cut look matronly,” says Normant. “Unless you want a sleek, stylized look”—like the one on the opposite page—“don’t curl the ends under; instead, blow-dry them straight.”

Explore Your Options.
Take advantage of the versatility of shoulder-length hair by trying new styles: “Tease volume at the crown, slick it back, change your part, do a low ponytail—you can really play
around with this length,” says Normant.

GOING CHIN-LENGTH

Study the Classics.
If you can’t decide which particular cut you want, “try a bob without bangs,” says McKnight. “It flatters almost everyone.” To update it, ask for a cut with angled layers: “It’s softer than a regular bob and just long enough to tuck behind the ears—giving the look some variety.” If you have very curly hair, “leave a few extra inches to account for the curls,” says Normant.

Man Up.
For an edgier look, keep the front sections chin-length, but trim the back so it’s no longer than your hairline. “Keeping the hair around the neck boyish and short is sexy,” says McMillan. “And you’ll still have long sections to style.” This shape makes fine hair fuller.

Go Big.
The pros warn against loading products on short hair, but if there’s no weight or texture, it can get too puffy. “The best product for this length is a volumizer,” says Normant. “Spray a little at the crown when hair is damp, then blow it out or let it air-dry, depending on how polished you want the hair to look.”

GOING SUPER-SHORT

Bring Visual Aids.
Tearing out a picture of the cut that inspired you is important with boy-short hair. “If you say ‘pixie,’ you might be thinking four inches while I’m thinking one inch, and that’s a big difference,” says McMillan. “But if you show me a photo of Jean Seberg or Agyness Deyn, I know what you’re expecting.”

Go Top-heavy.
For a sculptural short cut, ask your stylist to trim the sides and back of your hair to no more than two inches long and leave the top section at six or seven inches. “It’s an update on the cut Linda Evangelista used to have—you can vary it even more by adding layers on top,” says McMillan. These long layers can be swept to one side or styled into the hair, so “if it doesn’t look good one way, try another.”

Flatter Yourself
. To emphasize the cheekbones, “add layers that angle toward them,” says hairstylist Oscar Blandi of the Oscar Blandi Salon in New York City. “And highlights can thicken the hair so it’s easier to style.”

Know When to Grow.
“If you have cowlicks, keep the hair at least three inches long, or it will get too spiky,” says Blandi. And if your hair is very curly, “make sure the longest pieces are at least two inches long. Any shorter and you risk looking like you have a head of broccoli.”

I need a break from him. He is so bossy! I'm tired of that. Is it always me who will understand? Me who will cater to his wants and needs? Do I have to excuse that he is not in the mood because he has many things on his mind and he is so busy with his work? That he displaced his anger and frustrations to me? I don't think so. He also need to understand that.

I have also my feelings. I have my own problems. My own needs. But I don't let it get in the way of my relationship with other people. I know how to handle it in a proper way. Can't he do that? I think he is selfish. He just thinks of his own happiness. I hope he realized that. Anyways, we just need a break from each other. To think things over.

I need a man who will love me no matter what. I need a loving and caring partner who would support and understand me as much as I care about him. To make a relationship work, it must be a two way process. I've learned that no matter how much you love the person but he is not making you happy also, the time will come that you will get tired and fed up. It happens to me. I don't know what other girls think...

My officemates were busy booking for Cebu Pacific promo fare. And I was not that interested about it because I don't have anyone to accompany me. They have their own group of friends and I cannot mix myself with them. But unfortunately, the internet was so slow. So it takes a while for them to book. So, after booking. They check it out to the ticketing agency to retrieve the copy of their booking. But unfortunately again, they can't retrieve it.

When i arrived home, I also search and wants to avail for the promo fare. My mom wants to travel with me. Unfortunately, it looks like there's no available promo. Sigh! I only feel the excitement now that there's no promo anymore! he he I always have a late reaction on many things. He he I guess it's not meant to be.

But we will try again tomorrow. Who knows, we could get lucky!

Hot Head..

A problem will not be solved with a hot temper! I would only lead to more trouble. I've realized that if he is not in the mood, I just have to stay away from him and let him cool down. This would prevent us from hurting each other.

I have a late reaction on things or events. It would take some time before everything will sink in to me. I don't know if it's good. But at least if he is angry, I will not clash on him since I don't react immediately. But on some point it is not good because I did not fight or speak up right away to clear things.

It is just me. I am not good in oral recitation. I am good in writing. That is why I am good in writing a message of my emotions and feelings towards him. I can't verbalize right away how I feel. But I should practice more in oral so that I can defend myself right away...

Jacket...

I love beautiful things! I love to have beautiful things! Maybe the last time, I was too eager to acquire two beautiful things at one time. And the end point, I have nothing. I didn't get anything.
He he But it's okay. I learned my lessons well. I should ask one thing at a time.

I want a jacket and a bag all at the same time. Sadly, I didn't get what I wanted. Stupid move of mine. A friend of mine slapped me by his words that I am too expensive as a company. Gosh! He felt that way for me. Well, I'm not that expensive. I just want to feel his love and care for me. But I guess he didn't get it.
