How to Wear Jeggings..

With the return of super skinny jeans and leggings this past couple of years, it’s no wonder the jeggings were invented. Jeggings are basically an exremely skinny jeans that look like leggings and are also weared like leggings.

How to Wear Jeggings

I have to say that in the beginning I was not a fan of the skinny jean or the legging, but as time went on, I came to embrace both, and now, it seems like I can’t even wear any other types of jeans but skinny. The problem with these slim types of bottoms is that they’re hard to dress. And jeggings especially, can be a little tricky.

A Few Thumb Rules

First off, make sure jeggings suit your body type. If you don’t feel comfortable in them, don’t wear them – no one’s going to shun you for it!! Second, pick a dark pair that will go with everything from a basic tank to a sweater dress. Also, black slims you down so that’s always a plus. If you’re on the short side, you may want to get a petite pair as a regular pair of jeggings might run a little too long, and there’s nothing worse than 2 feet of bunched up jeans at the bottom.

So What Exactly Can You Wear Jeggings With?

How to Wear Jeggings

Jeggings are actually quite versatile, and I feel they do a better job than skinny jeans or leggings would. Because they’re still denim material, you don’t have to cover your butt, but they’re so slim and skin-tight like leggings that you can wear a long sweater or tee, a dress, or just throw a long cardigan over.

I love wearing leggings with a pair of chunky heels, a long sweater and a scarf. Add a big tote to that, and you’re set for the day. So if you’re heading to the mall this week, make sure to pick up a pair of jeggings: it’s all you’ll need!

How to Wear Plaid..

You’ve undoubtedly seen plaid styles all over the shelves this past summer and you’re more than likely going to see it in the fall as well. But most of us just think of lumberjacks whenever we see plaid and so because of that, it can be hard to incorporate it into our style. Here’s the 411 on how you can wear plaid successfully.

Plaid Dress

Plaid Dress Ensembles

Don’t be afraid to wear something unconventional…it might just work for you! Plaid tunic dresses are very hot right now and you can wear one with a pair of tights or leggings and knee-high boots.

Plaid Frilly Top

Frilly Plaid Tops and Dresses

Wear that silky, frilly, plaid top with a pair of black pants (get the plaid top in a somewhat bright color, it will go amazing with the black). Throw a boxy jacket on top and you’re looking fabulous!

Button-Down Shirt

Ok so whenever you see these types of shirts the first thing that comes to mind is Farmer Jack, right? Well no worries, you can actually dress up this farmer shirt by pairing it up with neutral colors and basic denim. Add a pair of chunky heels and you’re good to go!

Plaid Tank

Plaid Tank

I absolutely love this cute plaid tank that you can wear either during the day or at night when going out. Pair with jeans or liquid leggings and a pair of heels. Make sure you keep the accessories to a minimum since the top is already pretty heavy.

Plaid Ruffled

Ruffled Top Outfit

If you go for a plaid ruffled top look, pair with jeans or a pencil skirt and knee-high boots or flats. Accessorize just a tiny little bit with gold for an extra kick.

Cowl Neck Plaid

Plaid Cowl Neck Shirt

Cowl necks are usually reserved for more classy outfits, but a plaid cowel neck top can look very fun and flirty with a pencil skirt, dress pants, jeans, or a mini.

Delicate Plaid

Plaid Top

Feminine, delicate plaid tops can look cute if paired with the right items. Rock a delicate plaid top with distressed denim and a pair of heels to keep it cute and sexy.

Expert Tips for Getting the Short Haircut You Want..

That long, straggly hair is so seventh grade. Now, even models are getting chopped—so break out the scissors and lighten up.

Hairstyles are like hemlines: Everything that goes down must come up. “People get tired of long, long hair,” declares hairstylist Serge Normant of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in New York City, who created the looks on these pages. “The trend is toward shorter hair.” Here’s where we’d normally say that the trend is not just any short haircut, it’s this short haircut. But we’ll refrain this time. “Depending on where you started, short hair can now mean anything from shoulder length to two inches long,” says Normant, who rejects the idea that face shape or body type should factor into the decision. “Anyone can wear short hair—it’s a question of your personality, not the height of your cheekbones.”
If a major crop intimidates you, start at shoulder length and take it in stages. And if you are flirting with going to extremes, there are easy ways to figure out whether you’re really ready to lose a full six inches. Hairstylist Sam McKnight offers this advice: “If you wear your hair up in a ponytail or a bun more often than you wear it down, you’re definitely ready.”

THE CUTOFF

When model Siri Tollerod (pictured) wanted to chop off her hair, she turned to Serge Normant. He snipped it to collarbone level, made it shorter in the back, and layered it all around on the bottom inch. “The cut appears to be one length but doesn’t look heavy,” he says. Colorist Gina Gilbert added blonde highlights to play up the layers. “Now my hair has shape and swing, and it looks thicker,” Tollerod says.

GOING SHOULDER-LENGTH

Shape Up.
Though most hairstylists, including Normant, are generally allergic to rules about facial structure and haircuts, they do believe that if you have an angular face, you should ask your stylist for soft, face-framing layers, and if you have a round face, you should try blunt ends. If you’re in between, get allover layers. “And avoid bangs if you have a tiny forehead—they make it look smaller,” says Normant.

Get Dirty.
To avoid soccer-mom comparisons, try messing up your hair, suggests Chris McMillan of Chris McMillan, The Salon in Beverly Hills. “Don’t wash it every day. It looks best when it has a little roughness to it.”

Lower the Heat
. The big mistake people make with a shoulder-length cut is overstyling—particularly with a round brush and a blow-dryer. “You have to be careful not to let this cut look matronly,” says Normant. “Unless you want a sleek, stylized look”—like the one on the opposite page—“don’t curl the ends under; instead, blow-dry them straight.”

Explore Your Options.
Take advantage of the versatility of shoulder-length hair by trying new styles: “Tease volume at the crown, slick it back, change your part, do a low ponytail—you can really play
around with this length,” says Normant.

GOING CHIN-LENGTH

Study the Classics.
If you can’t decide which particular cut you want, “try a bob without bangs,” says McKnight. “It flatters almost everyone.” To update it, ask for a cut with angled layers: “It’s softer than a regular bob and just long enough to tuck behind the ears—giving the look some variety.” If you have very curly hair, “leave a few extra inches to account for the curls,” says Normant.

Man Up.
For an edgier look, keep the front sections chin-length, but trim the back so it’s no longer than your hairline. “Keeping the hair around the neck boyish and short is sexy,” says McMillan. “And you’ll still have long sections to style.” This shape makes fine hair fuller.

Go Big.
The pros warn against loading products on short hair, but if there’s no weight or texture, it can get too puffy. “The best product for this length is a volumizer,” says Normant. “Spray a little at the crown when hair is damp, then blow it out or let it air-dry, depending on how polished you want the hair to look.”

GOING SUPER-SHORT

Bring Visual Aids.
Tearing out a picture of the cut that inspired you is important with boy-short hair. “If you say ‘pixie,’ you might be thinking four inches while I’m thinking one inch, and that’s a big difference,” says McMillan. “But if you show me a photo of Jean Seberg or Agyness Deyn, I know what you’re expecting.”

Go Top-heavy.
For a sculptural short cut, ask your stylist to trim the sides and back of your hair to no more than two inches long and leave the top section at six or seven inches. “It’s an update on the cut Linda Evangelista used to have—you can vary it even more by adding layers on top,” says McMillan. These long layers can be swept to one side or styled into the hair, so “if it doesn’t look good one way, try another.”

Flatter Yourself
. To emphasize the cheekbones, “add layers that angle toward them,” says hairstylist Oscar Blandi of the Oscar Blandi Salon in New York City. “And highlights can thicken the hair so it’s easier to style.”

Know When to Grow.
“If you have cowlicks, keep the hair at least three inches long, or it will get too spiky,” says Blandi. And if your hair is very curly, “make sure the longest pieces are at least two inches long. Any shorter and you risk looking like you have a head of broccoli.”

Top 10 Ways to Hide a Tummy Bulge

There is nothing more annoying than trying on a million different clothes only to realize that the problem is not the clothes, but your bulging tummy. It can be hard to find things that hide your tummy but at the same time looks good too, so here are your top 10 ways to hiding a tummy pouch.

#1. A Banded Top

Banded Hemline Shirt

Banded tops are shirts that have a band at the hemline which is great for covering a tummy bulge.

#2. Wrap Dresses and Shirts

Wrap Dress

Wrap dresses and wrap shirts are excellent for hiding your tummy pouch. Choose them in colorful patterned styles since the eye will be drawn eye from the problem area.

#3. Shapewear

Shapewear

Shapewear is another great way to help hide your trouble spots, although they can be a little uncomfortable to wear at times. Stick to shapewear only when needed though!

#4. Get the Right Fit

Fitted Top for Tummy Bulge

Stick to your size and your body structure. Wearing something too small and too tight will only accentuate the problem and wearing something that is too large for you will only make it obvious that you’re trying to hide something. Instead, stick to a happy medium: your true size!

#6. Wear a Fitted Jacket

Fitted Jacket

Don’t cover up in a big jacket…it will only make you look bigger! Instead, try a fitted jacket that enhances your silhouette and nips at the waist.

#7. Empire Waist Tops

Empire Waist Top

Empire waist tops are great for hiding a tummy bulge since it nips right under the bust and hangs straight down all the way, hiding that unwanted roll of fat that you hate so much.

#8. Avoid Pants With Waist Detail

Simple Jeans

Put away your pants/jeans that have a lot of waist detail such as lots of pockets, bows, belts, etc, since this will only bring attention to the tummy area. Instead, stick to really plain and simple flat front pants with little or no detail at the waist.

#9. Select the Right Fabrics

Linen Top

Tight, stretchy fabrics will only accentuate your tummy. Instead, opt for more free-flowing fabrics such as cotton which will not cling to your body.

#10. Never Tuck Your Shirt In

Blouse

I’m not sure if anyone still tucks their shirt in, but if you do – please stop now! Tucking your shirt in is a major no-no, especially if you’ve got something to hide! Let the shirt flow over the pants, which will elongate your torso and hide your tummy. If your shirt is too long (too big), then it’s just not a good fit for you!

How to Wear Skinny Jeans..

Skinny, 80s style jeans have made a huge comeback like no other trend out there. They’ve been on the scene for almost 2 years now, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be going away anytime soon. Some people love skinny jeans, while others can’t stand the thought. The truth is, skinny jeans can look great, but only if you know how to wear them.

Most people like wearing skinny jeans with flats, but unfortunately, it doesn’t look good on everyone. Why? Skinny jeans don’t help your figure; especially if you’re short, or a little curvier. Skinny jeans look amazing on tall and lean figures, and that’s the truth. If you’re tall and lean, go ahead wear them with flats as they won’t shorten
you or make you look stocky. Not all fashion trends look great on everyone.

That being said, even if you are short, you can still pull off a pair of skinny jeans, but make sure you have a little bit of heel. Skinny jeans tend to shorten you, so wear them with a pair of hot pumps, the combination is
just to die for!

Either way, just because skinny jeans are hot right now, does not mean you have to wear them! If they don’t look good on you, there is no point in putting yourself in something that doesn’t make you feel comfortable.

There are leggings out there that will actually make you look thinner (think of control-top pantyhose) - there are leggings that do just that. Wear those babies during your workout, or when you’re feeling bloated.

Wear Leggings to Show Off Your Assets

If you’re on the shorter side, stay away from cropped leggings as they will make you look shorter. If you’re heavier on the bottom, choose black leggings paired with a bright top which will attract the attention to your face instead of your bottom area.

Wear Leggings to Impress

These days, you can get fancy, lacy leggings that you can wear to a more sophisticated event. Buy a pair with lace detail and pair with a short dress/skirt or jersey for a chic look. You may need to add a waist belt to balance off the look. Don’t forget the heels!

Wear Leggings to Look Edgy

You’ve probably seen the leggings with the zipper detail at the bottom in stores by now. These will give you an edge without having to try too hard. Wear them with flats during the day and with heels at night.

Need I say more? Leggings are the perfect item for you to wear when you’ve got a pair of shoes you really want people to notice.
